Experiment of Beginner's Mind (初心)

What’s it all about?

The concept of “Beginner’s Mind” can be traced back to various sources in Eastern wisdom teachings and philosophies, such as Buddhism, Japanese Zen traditions and Chinese Taoism.

However, what does “Beginner’s Mind” mean?  Essentially, “Beginner’s Mind” encourages an attitude of “non-knowing’, like the minds of young children that are without any pre-assumption, always innocent, curious and open.

It is a mind that is not confined and conditioned by the past experiences; rather, it takes each encounter and each event as an opportunity for a new experience. It is a mind of genuine freedom.

What is the benefit of having a “Beginner’s Mind”?  “In the Beginner’s Mind there are many possibilities. In the expert’s mind there are few.”  —–  Zen Master Shunryu Suzuki

What will we cover?

In this workshop, we invite you to join us at an Experiment of “Beginner’s Mind”.  In particular, we will discuss, reflect and explore how we can apply such ancient wisdom in our modern life:

–       Do you dare to live a life with a “Beginner’s Mind”, waking up every day like a blank page, free from any judgments and expectations from yesterday?

–       Will you feel comfortable to meeting others without any pre-assumptions based on ages, race, gender, appearance, job titles and status?

In order to ground our understanding, we will infuse the workshop with playful exercises, heartful discussions and meditations to allow you to discover your unique understanding of Beginner’s Mind in your own unique way. We hope that you may leave the class with a “Beginner’s Mind”, so you may allow yourself to see new possibilities of tomorrow.

Experiment of Being Like Water

What’s it all about?

Water is essential to our lives and to the Eco-system of the Earth. Yet, have you ever observed and contemplated the wisdom demonstrated by the shapeless and formless stage of water?

You must be shapeless, formless, like water. When you pour water in a cup, it becomes the cup. When you pour water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle. When you pour water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can drip and it can crash. Become like water my friend.”  —– Bruce Lee

Although passive, water can move through all things.  Whilst gentle, water can wear away rocks.  It flows without any resistance, it nourishes all things without any judgements.

What will we cover?

In this workshop, we invite you to join us at an Experiment of “Being Like Water”, which is a central concept in the ancient Chinese Taoism.

Together, we will look at some ancient teachings in Tao De Jing (道德经)for its wisdom, but we will also explore what ‘Being Like Water’ means to you, and how relevant this could be for our modern day life:
–       Can you love like water without any conditions?

–       Can you relate to others like water without any judgement?

–       Can you live our lives like water without resistance?

In order to ground our understanding, we will infuse the workshop with playful exercises, mindful and heartful meditations to allow you to discover your unique understanding of being like water.

Experiment of Non-Doing

Experiment of Non-Doing

What’s it all about?

In today’s fast-paced world, stress has become an inherent part of modern day living.  Many of us have developed the tendency of constantly doing things, instead of simply being, and we seem to find more comfort in always being ‘busy’ instead of finding time to truly relax.

Yet, are we human doing or human being?

Join this class to learn just to be again.  The concept of non-doing is essential to the ancient Chinese philosophy of Taoism.  In the ancient book of Tao De Jing by Lao Zi, there is a verse on ‘Doing and Non-Doing’ (为无为)  which highlights the balance between doing and non-doing (or simply a state of being).  It asks us to let our actions be inspired and guided by a healthy state of being, or well-being.

What will we cover?

In this class we will explore the notion of ‘Non-Doing’ that is central to the Chinese Taoism, by exploring a more contemporary understanding of ‘Non-Doing’ that is relevant and practical for our modern day living.

We will:

  • Look at some of the ancient Taoist teachings in Tao De Jing for its wisdom
  • Discuss what ‘Non-Doing’ means, and what ‘being’ means
  • Try some playful exercises and mindful meditations to allow you to experience the power of being
  • Finish the workshop with a guided meditation.

Deep Connection through Laughter, Play and Meditation

What’s it all about?

How connected are you – with yourself and others? Do you allow yourself to be openly seen, truly heard, and to be genuinely felt?

In this age of social media connectivity, is it possible that we are afraid of deeply connecting with ourselves and others?

February is the month of love, so why not join us for a fun and meaningful class where we will explore the new, yet ancient, way of connecting through laughter, play and creative meditation.

This class is for everyone and anyone – couples, friends or curious souls. You will leave this class with a deeper sense of appreciation your yourself and for others.

What will we cover?

In this class, we will learn new ways to create deeper connections in our daily lives. We will combine laughter yoga, play, and creative meditation in one playful and purposeful session.

Laughter yoga is an aerobic exercise using voluntary and intentional laughing (without jokes) as process to clear stale air from our body making space for fresh oxygen. When practised in a group setting, laughter is a powerful way to break down barriers and create bonding among participants.

Through the process of playing, participants will learn and discover the deeper purposes embedded in play exercises, enabling them to relax, reflect and reconnect in a natural and creative way.

We will finish the class with a guided meditation, allowing for more clarity and deeper connections.

This class will synthesise wisdom from ancient Eastern philosophies (Chinese Taoism, Buddhism and Indian Yogi traditions) and new discoveries from Western Science (such as neuroplasticity). It will empower participants to establish a deeper relationship with the self so we can better connect with others.

Where & When:
